How to paint a NMM (Non Metallic Metal)?

In collaboration with some of the best miniature artists in the world, Kimera Kolors has created this new line that represents the history, the way of painting, and the pictorial philosophy of these great characters, combining their talent with the power of Non Metallic Metal.

These paintings are complex mixtures created by the artists expressly made to suit their vision of painting and the way they paint. They are made with the full range of pigments that Kimera Kolors has (more than 13 in the main set) and differ a bit in consistency, matte finish, and other things depending on the paint. They complement the Kimera Kolors Pure Pigments Set well and are best used as bridges to achieve some desired effects.

Non Metallic Metal (NMM)

In the world of miniatures, paints are a crucial base to create any work. Metallic paints are one of the most complicated to apply and use, but one of the most versatile when it comes to giving satisfactory results. Painting with non-metallic metal is a fantasy, just a click away.

Painting miniatures is a unique art that requires great effort and dedication to be masterfully done, therefore, this type of art requires the best materials; such as those of Michal Pisarski.

Although the tools of an artist do not define his skills, the skills of an artist can be improved with high-quality tools, so the best thing to do is to acquire this type of materials, which will provide your figures with a clear improvement just by using them. You will be adapting to the most advanced art techniques, like nmn paint.

How are they applied? What are they made of? What are they like? There are questions about non metallic metal painting that may be on your mind at the moment, and we will answer them below.

What is non metallic metal

Non metallic metal is a technique of painting a metallic section using non metallic paints. This is a method utilized by painters where there isn’t disposable metallic paint.

They are high-quality serial pigments with scientific bases that guarantee their flexibility and capacity to adapt to the different needs of each artist, one of the best options for painting miniatures.

This type of paint is characterized by being sold in specialized packages, either of effects or bases and by presenting highly-concentrated pigments. These characteristics support the ability of the pigments to adapt to different artistic styles, and yet not falter in doing so. And this magic is impulsed by Michal Pisarski.

Kimera paints are the public’s favourite paints for painting miniatures, the question remains, what makes them so good? The answer to this question has 3 basic factors.

What makes NMM paints so amazing?

Their high-quality pigments, the fact that they are concentrated, and their ability to blend; are 3 of the most important factors in defining the quality of paint, be it for miniatures or anything else.

The best pigments and paints stand out for their simple characteristics, which, although may not seem like much, are not easy to find, either in nmn paint.

What does a high-quality pigment look like?

High-quality pigments are defined by the fact that they perform their function to the letter. If the colour is dull, it looks dull and always stays in that way, if the colour is vibrant that it looks as vibrant as necessary and this exuberance lasts over time.

If it is a base colour that complements perfectly with the others, if it is a small addition of light that can look like a glow, if it is just a shadow that looks like a shadow and combines perfectly with the base and the light. This is especially important in non-metallic metal painting.

There are so many characteristics of a good pigment that it is overwhelming to name them all, but without a doubt, the most important thing is that they always give satisfactory and lasting results.

Characteristics of non-metallic metal painting

Pigment concentration, or colour

Concentrated colours have the advantage that you can choose how vibrant or how dull they will be by diluting them, how dissolved the pigment is important when choosing a colour and that it will give the desired effect, so this is an important point, when-metallically metals are even more important.

Being able to dilute a paint gives you many more opportunities to customize, enhance and adapt a group of pigments to various situations.

Pigment mixtures

Last but not least, the ability of the pigment to mix with other pigments and still maintain its quality, durability and colour characteristics is crucial. A pigment that when mixed with another pigment results in an unexpected or unstable colour is a major disappointment to avoid, but is something that doesn’t happen with Michal Pisarski.

The best pigments can be mixed an infinite number of times with others and still never lose their special characteristics, which is the most important thing of all.

What are they good for?

Colorless miniatures are like a book, with index and titles but without content; they just have their shapes, their reliefs, and their personality, but they need to come to life, which is achieved through color. The artist is the one who is in charge of filling in everything that is missing and giving it the magic for which the already existing base is made.

The paints are the ones that provide this magic at the end, but for that, they must have high quality and be used with the necessary skill to make them high-level tools and capable of giving the expected results, it’s an important part of the non-metallic metal painting.

Especially metallic colours, which in this case are non-metallic metal, have a lot of utilities beyond painting metallic parts of a figure.

Metallic colours in miniatures

Metallic colours, besides having their main use in painting the metal parts of a miniature, can also be used to give certain special effects to other parts of the miniature.

Their use is not limited to metallic parts, but instead, they can also be mixed with other pigments to enhance certain characteristics, such as gloss, texture or colour intensity. It’s kind of weird when you think twice about nmn paint.

This is a great advantage, as it allows giving more variety to the effects and details that, although may seem tiny, are of great importance and stand out with the finish, something classical on Michal Pisarski.

Shadows and lights for miniatures

One of the highlights of painting miniatures with metallic effect paints or pigments is how useful they can be for lighter and darker shadows; this is the magic of non-metallic metal.

Shadows and highlights are details that always need a way to stand out, the mistake of every artist when starting to colour is to make the shadows only darker versions of colour, and the highlights only lighter versions; as this will make the work look bland.

With a metallic style and a touch up of colour, the lights and shadows of the miniatures will complement the rest of the colouring, make them look masterful, and make the non-metallic painting such a great thing to appreciate.
