WHERE ALL THE MAGIC HAPPENS
We are a creative studio specialized in the development of lines of miniatures and figures for board games. We manage projects from the initial concept art to the final stages of production.
If there is something that defines us at Big Child Creatives, it is the attention and care for every detail. The quality of our work is what sets us apart, and that is why we decided years ago to develop our own high-quality resin reproduction system.
Our history through the years
Big Child Creatives was founded in 2012 in Madrid (Spain) when the original members of the team: José Manuel Palomares, Ivan Santurio, Hugo Gómez Briones, and Ruben Martinez decided to join forces after working for some of the most important companies in the entertainment industry and winning some of the most important international awards.
At Big Child Creatives we firmly believe in a work philosophy with a strong commitment to quality, and in creating synergies with our customers, suppliers and collaborators.
This approach has inspired us to create our own resin production system, a process developed after 4 years of research and testing, which allows us to work with a very high level of detail in the figures without compromising delivery times or depending on external suppliers. Our resin is made of an odorless, light, and non-toxic material.
At Big Child Creatives we specialized in the creation and management of complete projects, being able to contribute with its expertise and know-how in each phase of its development, thanks to the extensive experience of the team.
Our first Kickstarter project
Only two years after being founded we launched the Black Sailors: Pirates of the Storm Coast as our first Kickstarter project, where painters and collectors could build an Orc Pirate crew with large-scale sculpts cast in amazingly detailed resin.
With more than 300 backers, we raised more than 1.000% of the goal set for the project.
“From the deepest seas to the Storm Coast, the Black Sailors raid all in their wake. No village or harbor can sleep in peace. The innocent live in fear knowing their time is coming. Their assault is far from a blade in the shadows. The waters of the harbor tremble with their wild howls as the raid approaches. The louder, the better. The bloodier, the better.
Only the strongest may escape their fury, and live to serve the Black Sailors. The crew does not waste its time with feeble prisoners. Only the rumors of their savagery travel faster than the wind beneath their sails. Those who hear them whisper that their thirst for gold and blood will never be sated. Few know that their plunder is in search of something much greater. Somewhere in the vast cold depths of the sea, shrouded in mystery, lies Old Jack’s Chest…”
If you missed this Kickstarter, you can still find the complete Black Sailors: Pirates of the Storm Coast series in our online store.
Legends of the Jade Sea
The team starter grew exponentially due to the high level of new projects developing in the studio for companies like CMON Games, and the founding members of the Big Child Creatives Studio focused on leading the constantly growing key departments of the company.
Our workflow was oriented to quality, time efficiency, avoiding risk in intermediate processes, and, ultimately, to facilitate the management of our clients by centralizing the entire project in a single place no matter how large it may be.
After the success of our first Kickstarter project, we launched Legends of the Jade Sea, a project that would expand the Black Sailors universe with a 75mm resin miniature line with new models based on the myths of the Far East.
Although it was planned as a four miniature line-up we ended up surprising many backers with scenery kits and bust of some of the characters.
Some more amazing collaborations
We never stop working on amazing collaborations like the Zombicide 2nd Edition with our friends at CMON Games featuring all-new art, miniatures, updated rules, fast setup, along with its well-known and acclaimed intense gameplay.
In this project, we were in charge of the 3D modeling of the miniatures and the painting work afterward.
After studying the concept art, the sculpture process begins, where the art direction aims to ensure that the project conforms to the concept art, style, quality, and scale that the project demands. During the sculpture process, in addition to the usual quality parameters, we work so that each piece is perfectly reproducible on any type of material.
When our artists paint the miniatures, they do so always thinking that their purpose is photography for its subsequent promotional use. A good painting should not cover the sculpture work, but rather adapt to an artistic ensemble and make the most of the work of the sculptor and designer of the miniature.
Echoes of Camelot: Arthurian Legends
Our latest Kickstarter project backed by more than 1.300 backers who contributed to making come true this breathtaking range of 35 and 75mm high-quality resin miniatures based on the Matter of Britain, particularly around the figure of King Arthur and his Knights.
The miniatures were sculpted and painted here at the Big Child Creatives Studio with the collaboration of some of the most talented miniature artists out there.
Manufactured by our own talented team of resin casting experts to allow us to monitor the process closely and ensure the best possible quality.
We had learned a lot from our previous campaigns, and we put all this experience to good use, repeating everything we did right and improving upon it to correct the mistakes we made in the past projects.
This campaign is a journey of discovery, full of surprises such as custom bits as Kickstarter Exclusive items to make your miniatures even more striking and unique than they already are.
Although this project has ended, the first figures of the Echoes of Camelot series will be available at our online store in September 2021. Stay tuned to our social media channels and website for more updates!
Our latest projects and collaborations
At Bigchild Creatives the fun never stops! We have had the opportunity of continuing to work and collaborating on amazing projects such as Marvel United and Marvel United: X-Men, a fast-paced cooperative game where players take control of Marvel Super Heroes and band together to thwart the master plans of the most dangerous Villains in the universe.
We’ve developed a singular painting style for the Marvel United characters known as Big Child Creatives Chibi Style, recreating the same look and feel of the comic books we all have enjoyed so much.
We also created many tutorials and step-by-step on how to paint your Marvel Characters so you’ll never forget to enjoy this hobby and its community around the world.
Check our YouTube Channel to see more tutorials made by the #BigchildTeam.
Our management team puts at the service of the project their extensive experience in international prestigious companies in the entertainment field.
In our studio, where coffee and snacks are never lacking, we have areas specially prepared for the different phases of the projects. Illustrators, sculptors, and painters can interact directly with the production team.
We like multidisciplinary, multicultural, and creative teams, where each one brings different points of view and techniques to the project.
